Mumbai Life - Experiencing Living In Mumbai

Mumbai as you know is the financial capital of India with big buildings and sky-touching hotels and apartments. But as I know, Mumbai is really more than that. I arrived by August Kranti Rajdhani from New Delhi to Mumbai transitioning from 0 degrees to almost 25 degrees. I had 2 sweaters in my hand and an internship offer letter in my bag which I had to show in LTI (previously L&T Infotech). First of all, I was kind of looted at the railway station by the cab driver. Well, let's not say looted but I was charged like uber after finalising a lesser amount before getting into the cab. On the way, I got to know that so called kaali peeli taxi and the ola-uber taxi have become arch rivals on this land. Well, still I believe that you should not get into those cabs and prefer ola-uber only. They really try to play smart and think they can earn more from Non-Maharashtrian. From that point on, I have been living in Mumbai and I hoped to share my experience of Mumbai life with you all.

Next day, I had to go to my office from a famous local train. I had never seen so much crowd at one place running here and there and not even one person could be spotted walking calmly. I was really shocked to see the number of persons on a single 10 feet wide bridge. I knew the train to board so I went to the platform. The next thing that I saw is nowhere compared to what I saw just five minutes ago. The local train was filled with people as if this is the last train which will save the people from an apocalypse. The train was really a lot like a normal train with just sitting benches. The train smelled sweaty and the people looked irritated in 9 in the morning. The grab handles were held tight with one or maybe two hands also. I entered the train which started right on time. There seems really quite some unusualness about time in Mumbai. It is known with reference to the local train timings. It is never 11:05 when you are living in Mumbai. It is always either 11:02 or 11:06. So the train started with a push and to my surprise was just like a metro. The halting time is 10-15 seconds like Delhi metro and the passengers double than the metro. There does not seem to be any organised way to check the tickets. The ticket collectors are hardly on the platforms and if they are, they just check 2 or 3 people's ticket for every 100 people passing by for which most of the time they are settling for less if you know what I mean.

I have been living in Mumbai for six months now and I tell you there is a lot that Mumbai life offers even though there is very less that you have heard. Tourist places are just an attraction but the inside places are really an addiction. Mumbai offers many many cafes and restaurants that you have never seen before.Rainforest RestaurantDa Capo CafeThe DomeMadeira and Mime are some of them to name. You will never get tired of going into these places and have a bite even though it is really hard you will complete all them. I will not talk about tourist places because you must have already heard of them and their reviews but since I can bet you that I have explored this place more than a Mumbaikar, I will be more interested in the things that forced me to write this.

Marine Drive Sunset

The weather of Mumbai is something that you will not like but I think you will once you are in habit of it. The weather of Mumbai is really humid with sunny days till May end. You will sweat day and night if you are outside. Mumbai is really beautiful in the night with many attraction on the road. After living here I feel very different about Mumbai life than I have felt for any other place I have lived. There is some feeling of freedom in its air, The feeling that I could start walking outside and even board a train in the midnight and sit on Marine Drive. Life in Mumbai is really fast. The people are always in a hurry and if you look back to the amount of time you have lived in Mumbai, believe me, there is no way you going to believe it. The things of two weeks earlier seems like happened this week. There is so much to do, there is so much to live and feel. I lived a really fast and amazing life in Mumbai. Although I have to go back to my home town, I think I am leaving my heart here in Mumbai.

The Divided States Of India

As I landed in the city of Bangalore, a man is shouting just outside the airport. He is shouting something that I do not understand. Fortunately, he has learned 4 5 English words. After all, he is standing outside the airport. “ Where, ” he asks. “ Marathahalli ” I spoke. “ Bus 8 ”. He says one word and starts shouting again. He was a bus driver. But most importantly, a resident of Karnataka state in India. Yes, this place is in my country and we both cannot communicate. Many years back when I was in the eighth standard, my textbooks proudly and boldly highlighted the words, “ India is a diverse country ”. They would show the culture and folk dances of each state. Unique on its own. A moment to feel proud. You can never find a country as diverse as India, as culturally rich as India. That was just the textbook. My practical started almost 2 months ago. Soon when I reached my hotel I realized nobody in the hotel knows Hindi. Yes, Hindi. A language spoken in India.

A Day Before Long Nights - The Start of GBS || Part 1

I took my empty bag, I took my jacket, dressed in college uniform I started my ride. I was going to my college to give my final semester presentation for the project I had done in LTI, Mumbai . I was happy about the fact that after today, there will be no exams, no attendance and my college life would be over. I had my days planned. Since I had been on the flight from Mumbai to Delhi to come home, I had planned all my days. I wanted to learn driving at a driving school. I wanted to learn swimming. I wanted to go to the gym. I wanted to go on at least three trips in one month. I had all planned but I guess life had other plans for me.       I gave my presentation to a four-judge panel out of which three were ladies. They were chit-chatting and I don't remember any of them listening to me after I told them the company and brief of the project. My presentation was over as soon as they told me "Thank You". It was a moment of epiphany. My college was over with that s

A Day's Tale In Meghalaya

It has been a long-awaited trip to Meghalaya. I always wanted to visit the states far in the east and experience their culture. In the December of 2021 by booking tickets for Meghalaya, me and three of my friends decided to explore this state navigating our ways by an i20 car that we took from Guwahati. Since our entry and exit point was Guwahati, it made sense.  Meghalaya is a small hilly state with a population of around 75%  Christians. This was one of the reasons that we had planned a trip during the last days of December to celebrate Christmas Day. The day around which this story pertains is the same day that we wanted to celebrate and came here for. Trekking in Mawryngkhang Trek On 25th December 2021, four of us decided to do a nature trek in Meghalaya around 50km away from Shillong where we were staying till now. Today was the day for which we didn't have any bookings done as we were not able to find any hotels online. A unanimous decision pointed towards " we'

Pangong Tso to Leh - Final Chapter - Ladakh Diaries Page 4

The morning in Pangong Tso was the most beautiful morning ever. My window had a perfect view of the lake and between us were green crops and vegetables grown by the locals. It is too far from the world and no vegetable vendor, fruits or anything else come here. You eat what you grow beside your home. The last village was Tangtse which was 30 km back and this was the day we were to move from Pangong Tso to Leh with our bikes. View from the window The sun was shining brightly and the cold wind filled the dry atmosphere with a view of snow that fell last night on the mountains just a few meters above us. I went outside to the door which was already open and the sunlight was coming inside forming a door shape on the floor. Outside was a small dog, white in colour, bombarded by thousands of smells he was sensing here. All these smells made him too excited on this bright day. He had a very short concentration span. He would smell something and a second later run towards another to smell s

A Different Side To India China Skirmish || India-China Faceoff

The India China relationship is the current topper in all the news channel and for about three months now. But before jumping right off to the current India China relationship let's start at the beginning of where India China skirmish began. On December 2019, a new virus was identified into existence by WHO. A virus that the WHO was not sure about but tracing the infected people back to their travel history, each one of them had visited China. Not only China and anywhere but at a specific city called Wuhan which is quite big in size as well as population. The virus was found zoonotic and there are thousands of zoonotic viruses that do not spread to humans. The virus originating in Wuhan was inspected under the microscope and had similar properties to the SARS virus which erupted in 2003 all around the world. This virus had a crown-like structure on its boundaries and hence was named CORONA which literally means crown in Latin. With its behaviour resembling the SARS virus, it was al

My Trip To Vietnam - Peace in the Chaos (Ho Chi Minh City)

Vietnam has always fascinated travelers all around the world without actually pointing out any one thing specifically. You might be traveling to India to visit just the Taj Mahal but why do you want to take a trip to Vietnam? There is no such thing. You just want to visit Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. But why do you want to do that? I don't know! And perhaps I did not get this answer from all the videos describing the beauty of Vietnam. This was something that had been playing in my mind ever since I saw a guy crossing a road with a million scooters coming at him. That looks like India though! Would that be the reason? I don't know! And so I pinged my friend Sudhanshu if he'd be interested in taking a trip to Vietnam with me - a beautiful and mesmerizing country. Ah! Sure he is. I knew the answer before even asking him. He and I have made and canceled plans a lot of the time. The one thing that we decided on our trip to Ladakh was to visit Vietnam (or maybe another south-east

When The Desert Turned White - Rann Of Kutch (Rann Utsav)

In the darkroom and past midnight, I and my two friends decided to plan a trip. But the place should be something that does not dig deep into our pockets and gives a lifetime memorable experience as well. While my friend Harish (yeah! we share the same name, unfortunately) asked me, "Is there a place where you wanted to go?".  This question hit me with a place that I have been struggling to go for the past two years. A place which is as far as Indian borders could stretch, as colourful as a child's smile and as memorable as " once in a lifetime " place. I instantly said, " Let's go to Rann of Kutch to see Rann of Kutch Utsav ".  Not to my surprise, my other friend, Aminul said, "Where is this place?" and Harish added, "What is there to see?". I knew that pictures will speak louder than my words. I googled quickly, " Rann of Kutch Utsav " and showed them the images. I am quite sure I showed them this image:

A meet with the Backstreet Boys

Okay, tell me who is this one. I plugged in one earplug in his ear, rewind the song, and asked my friend. That's Nick? He said in a rather "I am not sure" voice. Ah! No that's AJ. Isn't this song great? Yes, it is really! We listened to the song "Show Me the Meaning of being lonely" together on my Sony Ericsson phone which had only 200 MB of space. It could accommodate only four songs if I could balance the weight of pictures and other files. All those four songs belonged to the Backstreet Boys. The four songs I listened to before sleeping and after coming from school. While the mobile phone did not get me enough freedom, the computer I had hosted 80 GB of space. This was enough to satiate my new exploration. I couldn't care much about the lack of internet at my home and just a simple question "Do you know any internet cafe?" to my friend in school gave me a quick answer! "Near the shopping center on the main road". I was looking
